Ioana Baskerville is a senior researcher in ethnology at the Romanian Academy – Iași Branch and an associate professor of cultural anthropology at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași (Romania). She holds a PhD (2011) in the historical and comparative study of Romanian charms. She serves as Romania’s national focal point and leading expert for the implementation of the UNESCO 2003 Convention, having coordinated national nomination files for the UNESCO Representative List in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, as well as national projects dedicated to safeguarding intangible cultural heritage. Her work involves close cooperation with local heritage communities and cultural institutions. She is also a member of the Global Network of Facilitators, UNESCO’s expert group providing consultancy and training for the design and implementation of ICH safeguarding measures. Her research interests include the relationship between traditional culture and contemporary lifestyles, magical practices, calendric customs, religiosity, migration, critical heritage studies, rural development, traditional ecological knowledge, and pastoralism. She has extensive experience in contributing to international academic conferences, UNESCO meetings, and multinational expert groups. She has also been an associate researcher at universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and Poland. She has served as a member of the Board of the SIEF Working Group on Cultural Heritage and Property.
